COLUMBUS LEADERS TRAVELED THE WORLD IN 2025. THE QUESTION IS…WHAT DID THE PEOPLE GET BACK?
COLUMBUS LEADERS TRAVELED THE WORLD IN 2025. THE QUESTION IS…WHAT DID THE PEOPLE GET BACK?

According to reports, Columbus and Franklin County officials spent tens of thousands of dollars on travel tied to conferences and international trips to places like Japan, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Canada. Officials say the purpose was economic development, relationship building, and learning “best practices.”
Now ask the real question.
What measurable improvements came back to the neighborhoods? Did housing become more affordable?
Did reading levels improve?
Did violence decrease?
Did Medicaid access improve?
Did struggling communities see major investment? Did Black homeownership increase? Did youth opportunities expand?
Taxpayers keep hearing about “bringing ideas back,” but where is the public scoreboard showing the return on investment from all this travel?
If Columbus residents are expected to fund global trips, then residents should also be able to clearly measure the outcomes tied to those trips.
Because people struggling with rent, food costs, transportation, school systems, and healthcare are no longer satisfied with photo ops, conference speeches, and networking headlines. They want visible results in their communities.
The era of “trust us” politics is dying. People want receipts.
