That's just the way it is

Nobody talks about this, but a lot of us are just tired. Not sleepy, not lazy, tired. Tired of hearing the same speeches every year. Tired of seeing the same people pop up when it’s time for cameras. Tired of being told change is coming, and nothing around us actually changes. They say money is being spent, so why do the neighborhoods still look the same? They say programs are working, so why are people still struggling the same way? They say they show up, yeah… they show up for pictures. But after that, it’s quiet. And after you see that over and over again, something shifts in you. You stop arguing, you stop debating, you stop even paying attention. Not because you don’t care, but because it starts to feel pointless. That’s what people don’t understand. When young Black people check out, it’s not ignorance, it’s exhaustion. It’s being told one story and living a completely different reality. I had a conversation with a pastor yesterday, he said some of these politicians are trying, but the system is stacked against us. And I had to stop him right there. No. We’re not about to get comfortable with that. We’re not about to accept struggle as normal just because the system is hard. If the system is stacked, then that means we should be pushing together even harder. Not giving passes, not lowering expectations, not clapping for effort while conditions stay the same. Because at the end of the day, we’re the ones living with the results. At some point you start thinking, what’s the point of listening if nothing changes? And that right there is the real problem. Because once people stop believing anything will change, the cycle just keeps going. Same promises, same results, same conditions, different year. Call it whatever you want, but a lot of us know exactly what it is. And maybe the real shift starts when we stop accepting it and start holding everybody accountable. Because if we tired, then it’s time to move different.
