BLACK WALL WARNING:

Someone may be trying to steal homes without ever breaking in. Most people lock their doors. Most people install cameras. Most people worry about burglars. But what if someone could attempt to take your home without ever stepping foot on your property? It's called House Title Fraud. Criminals can use forged documents, stolen identities, fake signatures, and fraudulent deeds to make it appear they own property that belongs to someone else. Once those documents are filed, scammers may attempt to sell the property, take out loans against it, collect rent from it, or create legal battles that can take years to resolve. The frightening part is that many victims don't discover the fraud until they receive a foreclosure notice, a tax bill, a call from a title company, or learn that someone is attempting to sell their property. Franklin County officials have warned that title fraud is a growing problem. Vacant properties, rental properties, inherited family homes, and homes owned by seniors are often targeted because criminals believe these properties are less likely to be closely monitored. Ask yourself: Do your parents or grandparents own a home? Do you own a rental property? Does your family have an inherited property? How often do you check your property records? Most homeowners assume that if someone tries to steal their house, they will immediately know. That assumption could be dangerous. A home is often the largest asset a family owns. For many families, it represents decades of hard work, sacrifice, and wealth that can be passed down to future generations. Losing control of that asset because of a forged document is a nightmare no family should ever face. This is especially important in Black communities where home ownership remains one of the few proven paths to building generational wealth. Protecting your property is not paranoia. It's common sense. Talk to your parents. Talk to your grandparents. Check on inherited properties. Verify your records. Monitor your assets. The Black Wall is issuing this warning because protecting our communities is not just about preventing crime on our streets. It's also about protecting the wealth our families have spent generations trying to build.
