For decades Black people in Columbus have been promised change, millions have been spent, programs have been announced, press conferences held, and yet across housing, healthcare, education, policing, and economics the outcomes tell a completely different story, eviction rates still high, homeownership still low, life expectancy still behind, schools still failing, crime still concentrated, and access to real money still limited, so let’s stop pretending this is confusion, this is not confusion, this is a lack of accountability, starting Fall 2026 every candidate running for office in Columbus will be required to respond to a Black Conditions Agenda that is based on outcomes, not speeches, not funding announcements, not partnerships, outcomes, here is the starting point, not the final ask, the starting point, housing, cut Black eviction filings in half, not 10 percent, not gradual, 50 percent reduction within 4 years, increase Black homeownership by at least 15 percentage points, not through talking points but through verified ownership data, any development receiving city support must prove it does not displace Black residents or it does not get approved, healthcare, close the life expectancy gap by a minimum of 5 years, publish real race based health outcomes or lose public funding support, reduce emergency room dependency in Black communities by 40 percent by investing in real preventative care, not temporary clinics but permanent access points, education, increase Black student proficiency in reading and math by at least 30 percent, every high school serving Black students must have direct pipelines to careers with guaranteed placement opportunities, not internships that go nowhere, reduce discipline disparities by at least 60 percent and publicly show the data, policing, reduce violent crime in Black neighborhoods by 40 percent, reduce arrest disparities by at least 30 percent, publish real time policing data by race and location, no more summaries, no more hiding behind annual reports, real numbers that can be tracked, economics, increase access to capital for Black businesses by at least 75 percent, not grants for optics but real loans, real approvals, real dollars, require a fixed percentage of all city contracts to go to Black businesses and publish every dollar spent, reduce the Black unemployment gap by at least half, and here is where this changes, every candidate must sign this publicly, not privately, publicly, every quarter the data gets updated on the Black Wall, no delays, no excuses, every year you get a grade based on results, not your intentions, if you fail, we organize, we track, and we replace you, because here is the part nobody wants to say out loud, young Black people are watching all of this and they don’t believe in the system anymore, they don’t see results, they see the same cycle, promises, programs, no real change, and that disconnect is exactly why engagement is low, you want young people to care, show them results, not speeches, and if Black people in this city ever fully align around outcomes instead of rhetoric, instead of personalities, instead of who showed up at what event, this entire system changes overnight, so the question isn’t whether this agenda is too aggressive, the real question is, are you running to fix outcomes, or just manage the same cycle, sign it, or step aside!
